Dr. Anderson is a 1976 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopedics at Vanderbilt University and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and in general orthopaedics. He also has a certificate of added qualification for sports medicine. A specialist in sports medicine with a knee interest in knee injury and ligament reconstruction, Dr. Anderson was influenced by his years as an athlete and by Dr. Brant Lipscomb, Sr., a pioneer in sports medicine, whom he considers his mentor. Dr. Anderson has a thorough understanding of the unique needs of athletes with regard to treatment and prevention of injuries. He participated in a variety of youth athletics, including baseball, football, track and wrestling. He was captain of his high school football team and a TSSAA football AIIStar. He was voted Most Athletic. During his college years, he participated in athletics at the University of Tennessee. In an effort to continuously improve patient care, Dr. Anderson has conducted scientific research throughout his career. He has published 70 scientific articles in sports medicine books and various sport medicine journals. One of his papers received the Hughston Award for the most outstanding scientific paper published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He has also had seventeen scientific exhibits at national and international orthopaedic meetings, 62 national and international presentations and he has given 28 instructional course lectures to other orthopaedic surgeons. In recognition to his commitment to sports medicine, Dr. Anderson was appointed as an associate editor of the American Journal of Sports Medicine and a member of the medical publishing Board of Trustees of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is also serving on the Board of Directors of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and he has previously served on the Board of Directors of the International Cartilage Repair Society. Dr. Anderson is Chairman of the International Knee Documentation Committee, which sets the standards that orthopaedic surgeons around the world use to evaluate results of treatment. He is also Chairman of the American OrthopaediC Society for Sports Medicine Research Scientific Advisory Committee, which to helps sports medicine physicians conduct scientific research in the United States. He is also co- Chairman of the Knee Committee of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. In addition, he has held leadership positions in the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the Herodicus society. Dr. Anderson has been voted into America's Top Orthopaedists by the Consumer Research Council of America, Best Doctors in America by peers and Top Doctors on several occasions.
Outside the work setting, Dr. Anderson enjoys spending time with his wife, Candy, and three sons, Brian, David and Chris. He also enjoys fly fishing and upland bird hunting. Education
