The Foundation draws upon more than a century of combined staff experience. The Lipscomb Clinic recently combined with the Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance Sports Medicine Center in Nashville, Tennessee. In the 45 years since Dr. A. Brant Lipscomb, Sr. began his practice, The Sports Medicine Center has grown to become a respected center for sports medicine and orthopaedic surgery. The facilities at the Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance Sports Medicine Center offer researchers an outstanding clinical environment for study and evaluation of musculoskeletal injuries and diseases. The focus of the Foundation's work has gained wider application as the American public has recognized the importance of physical fitness. The resultant increase in sports-related injuries has enhanced the need for a better understanding of the causes, prevention and treatment of these injuries. To this end, the Foundation is implementing a variety of educational programs and scientific studies. Newsletters and instructional posters have been sent to coaches explaining the cause and treatment of various athletic injuries. Videotapes on topics such as heat-related illnesses have been sent to area high schools and colleges. Researchers from Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance Sports Medicine Center teach other physicians in instructional courses at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine meetings and present data gained from research at various national and international orthopaedic meetings. Tax-deductible contributions may be directed toward the research or education mission of the Foundation.
